Amish Sugar Cookie Recipe
This Amish Sugar Cookie Recipe makes more of a batter than a traditional sugar cookie dough. It's secret
ingredient is buttermilk! The buttermilk is combined with the flour, sugar and butter to form the cookie batter.
Since this is a batter rather than a dough be sure to leave plenty of room when you spoon it onto your cookie sheets. The
cookies will almost double in size.

The recipe also makes lots of cookies. So either have a lot of willing taste testers around you, or have a couple of storage
containers ready to be filled up.
Amish Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose floor
1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
¾ teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350F.
Whisk together the granulated sugar and the beaten eggs. Stir in the melted butter. Add the buttermilk and vanilla to this
mixture and stir well to blend.
Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir the dry ingredients into the liquids and stir the batter
just until all the ingredients are blended.
Pour the batter by the teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheets, leaving at least 2 to 3 inches between each cookie.
Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes. They will still be soft when you take them out of the oven, so let them set for
about 5 minutes on the sheet pan. Remove them to wire racks to cool completely.
Food For Thought - A little cinnamon sugar on top of the cooling cookies give them a little crunch. Multicolored
sprinkles are another choice to dress them up a little.
Good To Know - You may want to use products you have on hand, which will work out just as well. Use vegetable oil or
melted margarine in place of the butter, and regular milk can be used in place of the buttermilk. Margarine is usually salted,
so unless you can find unsalted margarine, omit the salt.
