These chocolate Chewy Sugar Cookies are so dense they are practically brownies!
Cocoa powder and chocolate chips are combined with walnuts and brown sugar to produce wonderfully chewy morsels that will melt in
your mouth.
You can use traditional shortening, even the butter flavored kind, but these all-butter gems are so memorable you may not want
to change a thing!

Chocolate Chewy Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cup golden brown sugar, packed
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips, mini or regular sized
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
2 large eggs
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375F.
With an electric mixer, cream the softened butter and brown sugar. When it's creamy, add the eggs, 1 x 1, beating after each
addition. Add the vanilla extract.
Whisk together the flour with the cocoa powder, kosher salt and the baking soda. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the creamed butter and sugar. Stir in the chocolate chips and the chopped nuts.
Drop by teaspoonfuls on an ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them at least 2 inches apart. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes.
When the cookies are done, let them set on the cookie sheets for a couple of minutes, then remove them to wire racks to cool completely.
Good To Know - These cookies will seem not fully cooked when the 9 minutes are up, but they finish baking while they are
sitting on the hot sheet pan. They are a little puffy at first, but will settle as they cool.
Food For Thought - For extra color, try using mini M&M's - they don't totally dissolve since they aren't in the oven
overly long.
If you can't bake the cookies right away, chill the dough. It should still be soft enough that you can roll it into 1-inch
balls.
You can also individually freeze the balls and save them to bake at a later time.
