Chocolate Spritz Cookies

Chocolate Spritz cookies should always be made at Christmas. Spritz cookies are a Christmas tradition. These chocolate cookies are good any time of year however. They taste like brownies.

Chocolate Spritz Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

5/8 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups white sugar
2 beaten eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup multicolored candy sprinkles (optional)

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, and stir in the vanilla extract and the milk.

Combine the flour, cocoa, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Fill your cookie press, and press onto ungreased half sheet pans. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.

Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the half sheet pans to cool on wire racks.

These cookies are soft and chewy with delicious chocolate flavor. Be sure to make a trial batch before you make them for your Christmas cookie tray however. You should always test Christmas cookies before the holiday.
