Date Bar Recipe

This date bar recipe makes a moist and chewy bar cookie that's just down right delicious if you love dates the way I do.

The recipe calls for one half cup of dates but I always put more.

Date Bar Recipe

2 eggs
3 Tbsp. Shortening
3/4 c. honey
1/2 c. pitted dates
2/3 c. nuts
3/4 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. Salt

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Blend the eggs, shortening and honey until creamy and then gradually add the dates and the nuts. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together and add to the honey mixture and blend well.

Pour the mixture into a well-greased 8-inch square pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut while hot and roll in powdered sugar. These are moist and chewy. Store in tight container.

Bar Cookie Tip:

Bake this date bar recipe (or any bar cookie) in parchment or foil-lined pans.

Extend the paper above the edges of the pan.

Lift the sheet of cookies from the pan and move to the cutting board by grasping the edges of the paper and pulling upward.
