Giant Fortune Cookie

Giant Fortune Cookie

A Giant fortune cookie has an advantage over regular sized fortune cookies. That advantage is obviously their size.

The size opens up a whole new outlook for the fortune cookie.

The number one advantage is that there's more cookie. More cookie is always better in my opinion.

Seriously a giant cookie opens up a whole new world for the cookie baker. It's size makes for an artist's palette. What a great way to let your artistic side run amuck.

All it takes is a little imagination so let it run wild.

The additional size also allows for larger messages. Heck you could put almost any message inside a football-sized fortune cookie. How about a birthday card or a Christmas card or maybe even a business card?

A full sized 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper folded accordion style will fit nicely. You could even write a love letter on that. And then you could decorate the cookie with hearts or cupids.

Making A Giant Fortune Cookie

Making any fortune cookie takes a little practice so you can get the cookie folded before it hardens. That goes double for a giant fortune cookie just because of its size.

So maybe you shouldn't expect perfection on your first try. But you might get lucky.

One of the limitations I have for making giant cookies is the size of my baking sheets. With the sheets I have I'm limited to a 10-inch cookie. But that's about 3 times the size of a regular cookie.

If I lick the pan size problem the next limitation would be the size of my oven. I would love to see how the commercial cookie bakers make those really giant cookies.

Make Your Template First

The very first thing I do is trace around a 10-inch dinner plate on a piece of parchment paper. This is going to be my template for the cookie.

After making up the batter I place some in the very center of my template and spread it wafer thin with an offset spatula. Then I just bake according to the recipe.

Now comes the fun part and the part that takes practice. Getting that big sucker off the pan without any wrinkles.

Once you accomplish that place your message and fold in half and then crimp in the center.

Bravo! You've made a giant fortune cookie. Now you can do your artistic thing. Decorate with whatever theme you like. Let the kiddies help. They'll have a ball.
