Orange BrownieOrange syrup soaked into chocolate chip brownies makes this first Orange Brownie. It's great for the kiddies. The second version is more for grownups as it uses orange flavored liqueur. Bake up a double batch of either brownie recipe and make somebody happy with brownie cookies as gifts. Chocolate Chip Orange Brownie1/3 cup shortening Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9-inch round layer pan. Mix the shortening, brown sugar and egg thoroughly. Stir in the milk. Sift the flour, soda and salt and stir into the batter. Add the rolled oats and chocolate pieces and blend well. Combine the flour mixture and the shortening mixture. Spread in a pan. Bake about 30 minutes. Just before the brownies are done, mix the sugar and the orange juice. Bring to boil. Remove from the heat. Stir in the orange rind. Pour the hot syrup over the hot baked brownies. Cool and cut into small wedges. This orange brownie is great served with ice cream. Orange Brownie Recipe3/4 cup butter or margarine 1/2 cup butter or margarine Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 13 x 9-inch pan. In a saucepan over low heat melt the butter and chocolate. Cool. In a large bowl beat the eggs, liqueur and vanilla until thick and lemon colored. Gradually add the sugar, beating until fluffy. Add the chocolate mixture and blend well. Fold in the flour. Spread in the prepared pan. Bake 25 to 35 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool. Brownie Frosting: In a small bowl the beat butter until fluffy. Add the remaining ingredients and beat until smooth and creamy. Spread over the cooled brownies. Drizzle melted chocolate over the frosting. Refrigerate until firm.
