Popcorn Ball Recipes
You might not think that popcorn ball recipes qualify as a cookie but I do. They fit my definition of a no bake cookie exactly. Crunchy good stuff held together by gooey good stuff.
They are also right up at the top of the most popular no bake cookies along with rice krispies treats. What would Halloween be without popcorn balls?
Popped Popcorn
In all of these recipes popcorn is the star of the show. Before you can make any of them you have to have some popped popcorn.
You can buy popcorn already popped or you can opt for a package of microwave popcorn. I can remember my mother popping corn in a big iron skillet with a lid on top of the stove.
I prefer doing the popping myself. That way I'm in total control of the final popcorn ball. There's no additives or other flavorings that might affect the outcome. Here's the recipe I use:
Easy Microwave Popcorn
1 plain brown paper sandwich bag (10 1/2 x 5 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches)
1/4 cup unpopped popcorn
1 tbsp canola oil
Salt to taste
Measure out the popcorn in 1/4 cup measuring cup. Pour the measured oil right over the corn in the cup. Dump into the bag and fold the top about 1/2 inch 2 or 3 times. Place in the microwave with the folded side up and microwave on high about 4 minutes.
Remove and sprinkle with salt if desired. For making these popcorn ball recipes you might not wish to add salt at all but I do.
Depending on the popcorn ball recipe you’re using you might need to repeat the above recipe several times to get the desired quantity.
Now that you have the crunchy good stuff you can move on to the gooey good stuff and make some balls.
