Rice Krispies Treats

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats are an American favorite snack. It's not expensive, is extremely easy to make and the kiddies just love them.

The charm of this no bake cookie comes from the crispy yet chewy texture and sweet taste.

Kellogg's got the ball rolling way back in 1941 even though many crisped and puffed cereal snacks were popular prior to their recipe.

According to them, an employee by the name of Mildred Day created the snack as a treat for a Camp Fire Girls fundraiser. Kellogg's published the recipe and it's been a runaway hit ever since.

Here's the original recipe:

Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats

6 cups of Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal
10 ounces of marshmallows
3 tablespoons butter

Melt butter in a saucepan. Add marshmallows and stir until melted; remove from heat. Stir in cereal and blend until well mixed. Press into a buttered 13x9 inch pan. Cut into squares when cool.

Only three ingredients! Now that's what you call simplicity.

The marshmallows can also be melted in the microwave which makes it an extremely kiddy friendly recipe.

I can envision an entire kiddy party centered on making and eating these treats.
